Friday October 7th the kids and I loaded up and headed to Austin.
People have told us great things about Austin but HOLY COW!! We had no idea just how dreamy it would be. Both Jamey and I are slightly obsessed with the city, we felt so at home while we visited.
Scarlett's new do
Three hours away was not a bad drive at all. We met up with Jamey and headed to lunch. He was already here for work, we tagged along again to explore for the weekend.
Love this babes of mine!
Our trip started off a little rough, Wellington had a fever and didn't feel great so we went back to the hotel and Wells, Jamey, and Scarlett all napped. Goose and I hit up the pool to burn some time.
Wellington woke up feeling a lot better so we went into the city for dinner and to explore.
Walking along the river
Austin is known for their bats. It has the largest urban bat colony in North America. When they emerge in the evening during "bat season" it's like a cloud flying towards the east. They usually take flight around sunset, it was crazy all who was gathered to see the bats. Seriously, so many people! We saw them but it was pretty dark, it was insane how many there were. Very cool experience, the kids loved it!
They live under Congress Avenue Bridge
Saturday October 8th we left bright and early for the day! So much to do and see!!
Peach looks so big now that she is walking, I can't get over it!
First up was to walk the Boardwalk
My boys literally can't get over the bats, so they feel the need to be one in every picture!
The boardwalk is man-made and goes along the river on the opposite side of the city. It's so gorgeous!
Best way to finish off lots of walking... DONUTS!
Pumpkin delight
Texas State Capital
So many fun details in the State Capitol
Then we went HIKING! Austin is called hill country and we know why. Seriously Texas is so flat, there are so many hills in Austin though. The boys started yelling, "mountains, mountains!!" Yes they do look like mountains compared to where we live with nothing. We seriously felt so at home!
We hiked up by Pennybacker Bridge, the views were so beautiful!
We took a little lunch break then went for another hike
We started our journey home after this hike to get home to watch the Primary Program in the morning. Austin was a complete dream, we have never gone so hard in one day with all our kids, they napped in the car or where ever they could get one. We will be back so soon! Who knows maybe we will move here next. HA! The city vibe was fabulous!
