Day 7 November 14, 2011 Vatican City
Most of today was spent inside, in museums, basilicas, chapels, etc. This was one of our most favorite days, filled with Art History and beauty...enjoy this post!
This was us in line to get into St. Peters Basilica, on of the most detailed churches in the world.
When the Romans built their structures, they didn't mess around...
Look closely, these portraits consist of millions of little pebbles. We were a couple hundred feet up in the dome of the Basilica.
From the inside of the dome, we started hiking up and up, till we reached the tip top of the dome, hundreds of feet above Rome, SO DREAMY!

We then hiked all the way back down the thousands of little stairs and passage ways, into the church and wow it was gorgeous!
Michelangelo's Pieta sculpture (Mary holding Jesus Christ when he was dead). Michaelangleo was only 22 years old when he completed this...
Jamey got yelled at for posing in this picture, this is someone sacred and special to the local Catholics. (maybe a Pope that has died? we weren't sure)
It's good to know that "thumb eye" was given back in the day
These next few photos were taken by my sneaky husband, there is supposed to be "NO PHOTO!" in the Sisten Chapel. Sorry to those who think we are lame for taking these, who knows when we will be going back... This is the Judgement.

It took Michelangelo 4 years to paint the Sisten Chapel, he was 33 years old. See the famous painting on the ceiling? The ceiling is the Creation.

After spending most of the day here we jumped in the car and drove North/East for about 6 hours or so for our next city.
